IT HURTS TO WIN
Winning means a lot more when you achieve at a high level. However, no matter what level you may be competing at, you know when you have been in a real tough battle. Winning the battles that really test us are the ones that we tend to feel the best about. You know that those battles could have gone either way, and that you had to dig deep to pull out the win.
There are ways that you can be better prepared to win against the toughest opponents you will face. One way is by understanding a fairly simple concept. That concept is that IT HURTS TO WIN. Winning tough matches will test every fiber of your being. It will test your skill level, focus, your conditioning and your mental toughness. If an opponent can exploit a weakness in anyone of these areas, it will increase his chance for success.
You must anticipate and expect to hurt during a tough match. It should not be a surprise. If you expect the tough matches to take you out of your comfort zone, you will be better able to deal with everything an opponent might throw at you. It is all about staying in the fight and fighting as hard as you can for as long as you have to. It is also about knowing that most opponents you will face have never heard this concept.
This is something you can work on in practice every day. The key is to push yourself as hard as you can especially during an activity that involves conditioning. You must learn to battle in an environment where it is most uncomfortable. The better you understand and the more you work on this concept the better competitor you will become.
Yes, winning does hurt but it’s a good hurt, the kind you can smile about. However, the more you prepare, the less it hurts.

Congrats Coach. I wltesred for Coach Pack when he coached for Quincy High School in California. I am great friends with his son and coach is more than a coach to me he is somewhat like a father. Hands down he is the greatest coach i have personally ever had the opportunity to meet in person. Coach Pack is a great man with a great heart and dedicates his life to his wrestlers and treats them like they are his own kids. He has a great family and by far is one of the greatest guys i have ever known
